MLA Research Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

MLA Research Paper - Essay Example ut the story, the readers do not expect that the Jefferson town people will locate Homer’s body lying in bed where it has been for the last forty years. Faulkner poses questions to the readers; â€Å" How would you judge Emily; as a murderer, or as a sufferer?† Townspeople, though characterizes Miss Emily as a very mean and stubborn, but always maintains a curiosity around her. The same is with the readers; liking or disliking Miss Emily is a matter of choice of individual readers; however, no one would be apathetic to this personage. From another perspective William Faulkner uses intrigue and irony to describe the South as he saw during the post-Reconstruction age. Thus, from a societal viewpoint, â€Å"A rose for Emily† describes the dark corner of the southern society. It reveals to the audience how south is rotting from inside out. The same is observed by Michael Bolin (1) in his analysis â€Å"The decay of the south: Duality and containment in â€Å"A rose for Emily†. Any literary analysis of â€Å"A Rose for Emily† will be incomplete without analyzing the protagonist of the story – Miss Emily Grierson; her physical and mental images. Changes of Emily’s mental and physical image present the allegory of the story; decay of the old south culture. Xie Qun (66-69), the associate professor of the School of Foreign Languages of the Zhongnan University of China in his work analyzes Emily’s internal and external changes through the change of her physical appearance. Faulkner describes her physical image through sarcastic comparison. He writes, â€Å"She looked bloated, like a body long submerged in motionless water. Her eyes, lost in the fatty ridges of her face, looked like two small pieces of coal pressed into a lump of dough (Faulkner 1).† It is perhaps Faulkner’s ironic way of describing physical transformation of a slender woman from a young age to an older age. Miss Emily’s mental image is an ironic contribution of her father’s influence over her. Xie

The Negatives and Downfalls of U.S Public Schools and Its System Research Paper

The Negatives and Downfalls of U.S Public Schools and Its System - Research Paper Example The current public school curriculum is fixed. The current curriculum is not addressing the problem of individual differences. No tow individuals are alike. Same way it is not necessary that needs of two children are the same. Current curriculum is providing same thing to all the children irrespective of the different tastes of children. For example, a child who hates mathematics, forced to learn mathematics. Same was a child who likes painting may not get the opportunity to learn more about painting in public schools. Instead of tying the children inside the classrooms, they should be allowed to come out of the class rooms and learn something from the nature. Ultimately, the workplace for a child will be the nature when he grows up. So, the training to tackle the challenges from the nature should be given at an early age itself. â€Å"The good news for parents is that public schools cannot charge tuition. The bad news is that public schools are complicated, often underfunded operat ions influenced by political winds and shortfalls†(Great schools staffs). Private schools raise funds through tuition fees, developmental activities and contributions from the alumni whereas public schools don’t have such channels of funding. Moreover, the funds allotted to public schools have been reduced considerably by the administration. â€Å"In a recent survey of school districts, 43% of respondents reported budget cuts of 10% or less for this academic year, and 21% reported cuts of 11 to 25%, according to the American Association of School Administrators (School budget cuts across the US projected for next academic year) One of the toughest blows and most shocking hypocrisies of the Bush education budget is his plan to entirely end the Perkins Loan Program,... This essay declares that the current public school curriculum is fixed. This paper makes a conclusion that major problem which contributed to the downfall of public school system in America is the bigger class size. The class size will be bigger in public schools compared to private schools and therefore individualized attention cannot be guaranteed to students studying in such schools. Private schools have many options to raise funds whereas public schools have limited options for raising funds. Public school facilities depend heavily on the economy of the place of its operation and any fluctuations in local economy can adversely affect the public school system. The salaries of the teachers in public schools are cheaper when we compare it to the salaries obtained by the private schools.

Discussion 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 4

Discussion 2 - Essay Example need to apply the theories learned in actual work setting through catering to the technological needs and demands of each colleague and of the whole organization. The tasks include maintenance of infrastructure and database systems, trouble-shooting, anticipating IT demands, and addressing pressing problems with effective solutions, as required. The difference between planning, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of a software system versus that of a sociotechnical system is the scope and depth of encompassing responsibilities. The former functions in a software system is merely confined to addressing the requirements needed to design, implement, and monitor the software system; and does not require ensuring that the software system is effectively interconnected to other users in the organization. Under sociotechnical system, the noted functions necessitate ensuring that the software system that was designed, developed, implemented, maintained, and monitored regularly towards meeting the organizations’ requirements and should be effective and sustained for continued benefits in the organization, as a whole. The core concerns in systems development life cyle (SDLC) include adherence to identified phases such the mentioned planning, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance; as well as ensuring effective management and control. The persons involved in the activities include the systems and network engineers, IT personnel, and administrative governance from senior executives of the

Impact of Medication Therapy on Diabetes

Impact of Medication Therapy on Diabetes For Doctors and Patients Studies show that intensive medication therapy to control glucose levels may not be the most effective treatment approach for type 2 diabetes. Insulin therapy results in weight gain, which can be excessive, worsening cardiovascular risk profile. Reversing Heart Disease Excess caloric consumption causes the buildup of cholesterol and plaque inside of the blood vessels. Lowering your cholesterol with cholesterol-lowering drugs does not decrease the risk of fatal strokes. Lowering cholesterol with nutritional excellence, however, can offer more protection and disease reversal than drug therapy can, without the risk or expense of prescription medication. The goal is a low body-fat percentage, which is best achieved by prescribed regular exercise and nutritional excellence. Nutritional interventions are effective for: Lowering cholesterol and lipid risk markers Losing weight and glucose intolerance, reversing the diabetic process Reducing inflammatory and clot-promoting tendencies Reducing the tendency toward arrhythmia, sudden cardiac death, heart attack, and stroke Managing Insulin Use for Type 1 Diabetes Early onset heart disease in people with type 1 diabetes is linked to insulin resistance. That means excessive amounts of insulin is dangerous for type 1 diabetics because it can cause heart disease. But when type 1 diabetics follow the nutritarian diet approach, they require substantially less insulin, reducing the risk of heart disease and hypoglycemia. Diabetes During Pregnancy Gestational diabetes is a pregnancy-related condition affecting over 5 percent of pregnancies in which women develop high blood glucose in the diabetic range. Gestational diabetes develops when the pancreas cant produce sufficient insulin to keep up with the bodys higher demand during pregnancy. Overweight women are more prone to gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes poses an increased risk to both mother and child. Elevated glucose level increases the size of the baby resulting in delivery complications. It also increases the risk of the baby having underdeveloped lungs and respiratory distress after birth. Gestational diabetes is characterized by very strong insulin resistance, so if insulin is prescribed to treat the condition, the dosage must be high. High dosage of insulin is dangerous because it can induce neonatal hypoglycemia and preterm delivery. So an aggressive antidiabetic protocol is needed to reverse gestational diabetes quickly without the use of risky drugs. A Sample Phase One (Aggressive) Diabetic Reversal Diet for Newly Diagnosed Gestational Diabetes This is also a version of the phase one diet plan to follow if you are on diabetic medications, yet still have a fasting glucose level above 150. Your glucose level will drop quickly under this strict diet. Once your numbers are more favorable, and you are reducing medication, then you can move on to phase two of the program. Make sure you reduce or eliminate mediations to prevent hypoglycemia. Follow this plan until your blood sugar is favorable. Breakfast Because insulin resistance is the highest in the morning, eat low-glycemic plant foods for breakfast. Avoid grains, beans or fruits, except some berries. Use one of the below suggestion per meal. A green salad with a creamy hemp seed herbal dressing. Half cup of berries. A roasted eggplant casserole. Half cup of berries. Lunch Choose two of the below suggestions per meal A vegetable-bean soup made with low-salt tomato and celery juice base. A bowl of shredded lettuce and raw spinach. Roasted tufu slices wrapped in raw collard green leaves. Zucchini-cauliflower casserole. Spicy beans or lentils (1 cup) served hot over a bed of shredded raw vegetables. Dinner Include all three below per meal Steamed green vegetables, crushed raw walnuts, and toasted almond slivers. Raw vegetable served with a humus or salsa dip. One fresh fruit, or two kiwis or some berries for dessert.

The Pros for email Out Weigh the Cons Essay -- Teaching Writing Educat

The Pros for email Out Weigh the Cons Not too long ago I would get off the school bus, run down the street and try to beat my brother at checking the mail. I was always so excited to see if anyone had sent me a card, or if we were in the next phase of the Publisher’s Clearing House drawing. This was long before almost every house in America had a computer. This was the time when there were still payphones on every corner, answering machines were the coolest thing to have, and stamps were only ten cents. Email has enhanced the ‘letter writing’ of the past. Today we live in a fast paced society with fast food restaurants, drive up ATMs, two-way radios and now electronic mail, also known as email. Email has become a part of everyday life for most individuals. It would be hard to find a company that does not use email in some aspect of their work. I use it all day long, customers email me orders, colleagues email each other, and of course I receive a daily email from my father. We were at a virtual stand still this past month when our email server crashed. We had lost all of our contact information that was saved in our email address books, all past emails. Our computer technician did retrieve everything, but it was a very stressful few days. Email has allowed people to stay in touch with each other quickly and inexpensively. There is no need for a pen and paper when using email or the envelope and stamp. All someone has to do is type out their message select the intended receiver(s) and hit send. My family has a ‘yahoo group’ where everyone can post messages. This has allowed us to keep in touch with family from Arkansas and California. We were able to keep all of my grandfather’s brothers and si... ...asional letter writing, but would have to agree with Dennis Baron in his article that â€Å"..the physical effort of handwriting, crossing out, revising, cutting, and pasting.. now seemed to overwhelm and constrict me, and I longed for the flexibility of digitized text† (36). Performing protocol captures Essay

1.Which tool is better at performing protocol captures and which tool is better at performing protocol analysis? Wireshark is better for performing protocol analysis and Netwitness Investigator is best at performing protocol captures. Wireshark does well at both aspects, which makes it a little better. 2.What is promiscuous mode and how does this allow tcpdump, Wireshark, and NetWitness Investigator to perform protocol capture off a live network? Promiscuous mode is for a wired network interface controller or wireless network interface controller that causes the controller to pass all traffic to the CPU instead of passing only through the frames the controller is supposed to receive. It allows tcpdump, Wireshark, and NetWitness Investigator to perform protocol capture off a live network because it’s made for packet sniffing, which all these applications perform. 3.What is the significance of the TCP three-way handshake for applications that utilize TCP as a transport protocol? Which application in your protocol capture uses TCP as a transport protocol? The significance of the TCP three-way handshake is that three messages are transmitted by TCP to negotiate and start a TCP session between the computers. The purpose is so that two computers can negotiate the parameters of the network TCP socket connection before transmitting the data. Wireshark is the application that uses TCP as a transport protocol. 4.How many different source IP host addresses did you capture in your protocol capture? There were 6 different IP host addresses captured in the protocol capture. 5.How many different protocols (layer 3, layer 4, etc.) did your protocol  capture session have? What function in Wireshark provides you with a breakdown of the different protocol types on the LAN segment? 6. Can Wireshark provide you with network traffic packet size counts? How and where? Are you able to distinguish how many of each packet size was transmitted on your LAN segment? Why is this important to know? 7. Is FTP data able to be replayed and reconstructed if the packets are captured on the wire? If an attack were to occur between the source and destination IP host with data replayed that has been altered, what kind of attack is this called? 8. Why is it important to use protocol capture tools and protocol analyzers as an information systems security professional? 9. What are some challenges to protocol analysis and network traffic analysis? 10. Why would an information systems security practitioner want to see network traffic on both internal and external LAN segments at the DMZ within the LAN-to-WAN domain (i.e., both on the inside and outside LAN segments)?

Engage in personal development in health, social care or children Essay

Outcome 1 Understand what is required for competence in own work role 1) Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role To assist service users with everyday tasks such as washing, toileting, dressing, eating, drinking. To assist with mobility and disability. To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity through talking and reading with them, taking them out, hobbies and recreation. House cleaning and laundry. Read and write reports. Take part in training updates regularly. Follow policies and procedures at all times. Report any changes to service user’s health or circumstances. Encourage service users to be as independent as possible. Be mentor to new staff and complete their supervision plans. Carry out medication duties. Complete methodologies, action plans and evaluations for individual residents on a monthly basis. 2) Explain expectations about own work role as expressed in relevant standards There are two main standards that I am expected to be able to comply with – National Miniumum Standards The purpose of these Standards is to set out the National Minimum Training Standards for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England. These standards define the minimum you should know, irrespective of your individual work role. Often you will gain this knowledge during a period of induction in the first weeks or months of your employment. While meeting these minimum standards is not the same as being competent in your role, they do provide the foundation for safe and effective practice. The  standards do not seek to set out competences for workers, but correspond to the underpinning knowledge within the Core Competences for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England. The National Minimum Standards consist of 10 Standards – 1. The roles of the Healthcare Support Worker and Adult Social Care Worker 2. Your personal development 3. Effective communication 4. Equality, diversity and inclusion 5. Duty of care 6. Safeguarding 7. Person-centred care and support 8. Health and safety 9. Handling information 10. Infection prevention and control Each Standard has several units within. For example, the first Standard has 4 units – 1. Understanding your own role 2. Your relationship with others 3. Working in ways that have been agreed with your employer 4. Working in partnership with others Each unit then has it’s own elements. For example, the first unit has 3 elements – 1.1.1 Understand your main duties and responsibilities 1.1.2 Understand the standards and codes of conduct and practice that relate to your role 1.1.3 Be aware of how your previous experiences, attitudes and beliefs may affect the way you work National Occupational Standards National Occupational Standards have been developed in most industries. They – Describe best practice in particular areas of work Bring together the skills, knowledge and values necessary to do the work as statements of competence Provide managers with a tool for a wide variety of workforce management, quality control and specification tasks Are the basis of training and qualifications. Skills for Care and Development develops standards with the care sector that focus on all levels of work, with an expectation that the standards will be used at least as much in human resource and operational management, as they will be in the development of qualifications. Skills for Care and Development works with employers and others to contribute to and promote the developing uses of the standards. I am expected to be able to carry out my duties to the best of my ability, competently and to at least the minimum standards set out in both of the above Standards. Outcome 2 Be able to reflect on practice 3) Describe how own values, belief systems and experiences may affect working practice Everyone has different values, beliefs and experiences which are important to them and what we see as acceptable or desirable is an important part of who we are. For example, Someone’s religion, diet, class, sexuality and ability are individual to them. The way we respond to people is linked to our beliefs, what we class as important and what our interests are. We are more likely to respond positively to someone who shares our values, than to someone who has different values. It is natural to want to make friends and spend time with people who share our interests and values. In a work place, problems can arise when we start to assume what we know is ‘right’ or ‘normal’ for someone. Everyone sees things in different ways. For example, if i was to put ‘songs of praise’ on the tv, I am forcing everyone to watch a program following MY own religous beliefs. As a professional, it is my duty to provide the same quality of care and support for all, regardless of their values, beliefs and what they consider to be important. If I was to allow my own preferences to interfere with my work, I will be failing to perform to the standards of the Code of Practice for social care workers. All Care Workers are to respect and promote people’s individual views and wishes. Outcome 3 Be able to evaluate own performance 1) Evaluate own knowledge, performance and understanding against relevant standards To be able to evaluate my own knowledge, performance and understanding, I need to be able to reflect on what I do and the way I work. I also need to know my own weaknesses and strengths. Once I am able to do this, I can learn to think about the way I work, in a constructive way, and use this to identify areas for improvement. For example, during the day, I would make a cup of tea for all the residents. But, after reflecting on this, I can see that I should have given the residents a choice of drink and not assume that they all wanted tea. This would then be in accordance with Standard 3, of the National Minimum Standards. Outcome 5 Be able to use learning opportunities and reflective practice to contribute to personal development 1) Evaluate how learning activities have affected practice Although I had been a carer for a while, when I became a carer for residents with dementia , I was unsure of how to communicate with them. I shadowed the Senior Carer for a while and learnt quickly that although the residents have dementia, most can communicate verbally on a basic level . I learnt how to communicate through not only speech, but using hand signs as well. I learnt that some of the residents are quite hard of hearing, so I have to speak up. If I had not of shadowed the Senior Carer, It would of taken me longer to adjust to communicating with the residents in a way that they would understand me, and I would understand them.
